Why Did I Quit Believing in Christianity?

I was about 18 years old when I finally called it quits as I watched a band of militant Muslims praising someone named Allah. I had no idea who Allah was and why these people hated Americans so much at the time.

I kept focusing on the hatred and the more that I focused on the hatred coming from all of the people that they were filming from some country called Iran. All I could think about was how ignorant these people actually were. Who could have brainwashed these people into thinking that Allah was God and Jesus wasn’t?

This problem between Iran and the United States was actually starting to infuriate me. I couldn’t get the thoughts of the young men and women screaming things like,” Death to Americans or that America was the great Satan.” I kept asking myself, why anyone would believe in something that wasn’t true. I just couldn’t seem to get it out of my mind. I had been taught my whole life that Jesus and God were the only gods to believe than and now they’re talking about another God called Allah.

I couldn’t get it out of my mind, until one day it finally dawned on me, that I could be wrong. This thought had never entered my mind before and I really don’t know where it came from, but now that it was here, I needed to answer it. This one particular moment in my life, changed it forever. This one thought, made me realize that I could have also been brainwashed to believe in something that might not be true.

It’s hard to imagine that I’m not a Christian, because I was watching a bunch of Muslims screaming out obscenities against America, but that’s why I changed. If neither Christians nor Muslims can provide me with any proof that their God actually exists, why should I believe either.

We can look back hundreds of years ago and laugh at the things that people actually believed in, but we don’t seem to question the things that we believe in today. I don’t know if you realize this or not, but a hundred years from now there will be plenty of people laughing at the things that we believe and today.
