Avoid Christianity Lite

Introduction

Many different companies now market lite versions of various products. While many of these products might meet our needs, one thing we should not partake of is Christianity Lite.

God’s Holy Spirt is a spirt of power. We need to use the power of the Holy Spirit to overcome sin, love others, and do the work of God. Individuals who have repented of breaking the law of God, been baptized, and had hands laid on them receive the Holy Spirit and become Christians. Christians need to stir up the Holy Spirit and use its power in their lives as the apostle Paul wrote in II Timothy 1:6-7:

6Wherefore I put thee in remembrance that thou stir up the gift of God, which is in thee by the putting on of my hands.

7For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind. (KJV)

The purpose of this article is to describe the Holy Spirit as a spirit of power, of love, and of a sound mind.

God Has Given Us the Spirit of Power

Luke wrote the following in Acts 1:8:

8But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth. (KJV)

The Holy Spirit came up the disciples at the Feast of Pentecost shortly after the resurrection and ascension of Jesus Christ (Acts 2:1-4). The Feast of Pentecost was known as the Feast of Weeks in the Old Testament. It is one of annual Feast Days of God (Leviticus 23:15-21).

The Holy Spirit is to give Christians the power they need to spread the gospel of the Kingdom of God to all the world.

After the disciples received the Holy Spirit on the Day of Pentecost as recorded in Acts 2, they used the Holy Spirit to witness to others about the resurrection of Jesus Christ with great power as Luke wrote in Acts 4:33:

33And with great power gave the apostles witness of the resurrection of the Lord Jesus: and great grace was upon them all. (KJV)

The apostle Paul wrote that in the last days people would have a form of godliness while denying its power and committing all kinds of evil. His words are recorded in II Timothy 3:1-5:

1This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come.

2For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,

3Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good,

4Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God;

5Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away. (KJV)

We are not to use a lite form of Christianity. We are not to deny the power of the Holy Spirit. We should avoid people who commit evil and deny the power of the Holy Spirit.

God Has Given Us the Spirit of Love

The Holy Spirit is also the spirit of love. Indeed, love is one of the fruits of the Holy Spirit (Galatians 5:22). The apostle Paul wrote that the love of God comes into our hearts through the Holy Spirit in Romans 5:1-5:

1Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:

2By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.

3And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience;

4And patience, experience; and experience, hope:

5And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us. (KJV)

The Holy Spirit Allows Us to Keep God’s Law

If we have our focus on the things of the flesh, then we cannot keep the law of God and please God. We can have our focus on the things of God and keep his law through the power of the Holy Spirit as the apostle Paul wrote in Romans 8:5-9:

5For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit.

6For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.

7Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be.

8So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God.

9But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his. (KJV)

Conclusion

We should avoid Christianity lite. We should tap into the power of God’s Holy Spirit to overcome sin, love others, and be a light to the world.
